Soup to the rescue! Start cooking.

It has been a full year since the start of the pandemic, an unsettling and strange period in our lives. Great number of us experienced lockdowns and all kinds of setbacks, yet we try to remain hopeful and focused on things that matter.  Our families remain the center of this much slower life. Many of us realize the great power of togetherness and companionship that can be created by cooking and sharing meals together.

I know I have been cooking and experimenting more. I am an optimist at heart and miss gatherings and planning for times spend together.  The result is this new website and hopefully more blog posts to come. Let’s start cooking; practice makes it better.

Many books have been written for beginner home cooks. They often start with basics like scrambled eggs. I think we need more comfort in this challenging time and soup is the answer.

If you are lost or new in the world of food making start with learning how to cook soup. It is perfect for beginners, people pressed for time and those who are looking for comfort. Soups are filling and nutritious and many of them are incredibly addictive. They will last in the fridge for up to one week. I know, I cannot live without them.

They can be served for lunch and dinner, are easy to cook and hard to mess up. All of them require slicing and dicing vegetables, necessary skill to master, and learning how and when to season food. These are basic skills for learning how to cook at home. In my opinion perfect start in the world of home cooking.

Are you ready? Let’s do it.

I am offering two (level one in soup making) recipes:

They are flavor opposites and at least one of them should appeal to you.

French carrot soup with ginger is mellow and smooth.

Turkish style red lentil soup is coarse and a little spicy.

Both require very few ingredients and are simple to make. Make sure to add final seasoning after the soup cools.
