- In a large soup pot add oil and kielbasa, sauté until it starts to brown. Add onions, marjoram, oregano and continue cooking until onions are soft. Add garlic. After 1 min. add water, vegetable base, green split peas, rice, celery and carrot. Bring to a boil, reduce flame, cover and cook for about 15 min. Add potato, continue cooking for an additional 5 min. Season with salt and pepper. The soup is ready when the peas are starting to fall apart.
To add more richness and a hint of extra flavor, finish the soup with butter. After you turn the flame off, drop one tbsp. of butter cut into chunks. Cover and wait until it dissolves. Stir and serve.
